·热喷涂系列过程：以某种热源将喷涂材料（线材或粉材）加热，受热的材料形成熔融或半熔融状态的微粒，这些微粒以压缩空气为动力以一定的速度冲击并沉积在基体表面上，形成具有一定特性的喷涂层。

·以提供热源的不同，可分为燃烧法和电热法。前者包括燃烧火焰喷涂、爆炸喷涂及高速火焰喷涂（HVOF）；后者包括电弧喷涂及等离子喷涂（又分常压等离子喷涂与水稳等离子喷涂）。喷涂工艺对涂层产生重要影响的是喷涂温度（严格的说，是溶滴冲击基体表面时的温度）和溶滴冲击表面的速度。

◆涂层功能  Coating function

依据美国F.N.LONGO对热喷涂涂层的分类方法，涂层按功能可分为：

1、耐磨损涂层。包括抗粘着磨损、表面疲劳磨损涂层和耐冲浊涂层。其中有些情况还有抗低温（< 538C）磨损和抗高温（538～843C）磨损涂层之分。

2、耐热抗氧化涂层。该种涂层包括高温过程（其中有氧化气氛、腐蚀性气体、高于843℃的冲蚀及热障）和熔融金属过程（其中有熔融锌、熔融铝、熔融铁和钢、熔融铜）所应用的涂层。

3、抗大气和浸渍腐蚀涂层。大气腐蚀包括工业气氛、盐性气氛、田野气氛等造成的腐蚀；浸渍腐蚀包括饮用淡水、非饮用淡水、热淡水、盐水、化学和食品加工等造成的腐蚀。

4、电导和电阻涂层。该种涂层用于电导、电阻和屏蔽。

5、恢复尺寸涂层。该种涂层用于铁基（可切削与可磨削的碳钢和耐蚀钢）和有色金属（镍、钴、铜、铝、钛及他们的合金）制品。

6、机械部件间隙控制涂层。该种涂层可磨。

7、耐化学腐蚀涂层。化学腐蚀包括各种酸、碱、盐，各种无机物和各种有机化学介质的腐蚀。

Coating can be divided in function according to the US F.N.LONGO of method that the classified method of thermal spraying coating.
